Passenger cars have liquid brake systems (brake fluid) which   causes liquid to immediately dispense when the brakes are activated.  But did you know that tractor trailers (the big rigs, semis you see on the roadway) have braking systems that are based on air?  When the brakes are pressed, the air in the chambers is compressed.  Air does not escape/dispense out into the braking system with air brakes as quickly as it does in a passenger car.

A tractor-trailer collided with a passenger van in Arizona yesterday which resulted in the tragic death of 7 people.  The van vehicle was heading east on Interstate 10 about 40 miles west of Phoenix while the truck was traveling west when it went across the highway and struck the van head on.

Debris on the Roadway Can Cause Fatal Missouri Car Crashes

The Illinois Department of Transportation had an unusual mess to clean up Thursday morning. A truck transporting frozen cakes and pastries crashed with a semi tractor trailer on Interstate 74, about 4 ½ miles west of Goodfield, IL. The crash caused almost two dozen deserts and bratwursts to be strewn about the interstate. IDOT responded to the scene and power washed the roadway, due to slippery conditions.

Tractor-Trailer Involved in Missouri Highway Car Crash

A two vehicle crash occurred Friday morning on Interstate 55 near mile marker 149 in Ste. Genevieve County, MO. The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the crash that involved a tractor trailer and another truck, belonging to the Missouri Department of Transportation. A medical helicopter responded to the scene to assist with injuries. The severity of the injuries is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.

Infant Rescued From Lake After Missouri Truck Accident

A truck accident was reported on Route VV in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. The Missouri State Highway Patrol indicated that the 24 year-old father was driving too fast for conditions when he crashed causing his truck to overturn and fall into the river.
