Recently, the U.S. FDA issued a safety alert warning consumers of the risks associated with longterm use of IVC (interior vena cava (IVC) filters. Individuals with IVC filters are usually those who suffer from DVT (deep vein thrombosis), trauma victims, pulmonary embolism, those with a history of blood clots in legs, or others who have issues with mobility. Bard Peripheral Vascular has manufactured an IVF filter with an extremely high failure rate. Specifically, the “Recovery Filter” has a 25% failure rate and the “G2 Filter” has a 12% failure rate.
The Recovery filters were made from 2003-2005 and the G2 filters were made from 2005-the present. Individuals with these types of filters need to be aware that the device may move throughout the body, the filter may break, or the filter may detach. If the filter fractures, the person may experience a rapid heart rate, increased fluid in the body, or even death. Because these filters can be affected through trauma, they can be dangerous to Illinois and Missouri individuals who have been involved in a truck crash, a car crash, a fall, or any other type of trauma.
