Woman’s Legs Crushed in Dupo, Illinois

On July 24, 2010, in Personal Injury, Truck Accident, by K. Lindsay Rakers

A Dupo, Illinois woman was at Barnes Pipe and Steel having large steel pipes loaded into her truck when suddenty, the weight shifted in the truck and a 30 foot long steel pipe fell on the lady’s legs. The pipe, estimated to weigh at least half a ton, crushed at least one of her legs – maybe both. After airbags and a lift were used to free her, the woman was immediately flown to St. Louis University. KSDK reports that the full extent of her injuries are still not known.

Property owners, such as Barnes Pipe and Steel in Dupo, Illinois are required to have certain procedures in place to ensure the safety of the property visitors. All of the facts of this incident are not yet known so it is too early to speculate as to whether someone was responsible for this woman’s injuries. It seems, however, that there should have been a safety plan in place to make sure that the pipes had no way of falling at all, and if there was such a risk, that the “fall site” be free and clear of people.
