Dog kills elderly woman

On November 30, 2009, in Dog Bite Attorney, Personal Injury, by K. Lindsay Rakers

KSDK reported that an elderly Flora, Illinois woman was attacked by a dog early Monday and died later that same day. The victim, identified as 85-year-old Rosie L. Humphries, was walking her dog when she was attacked by a pit bull. The attacking dog mauled both Ms. Humphries and her dog. Although police officers and residents administered first aid to Ms. Humphries, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her dog was also killed in the attack. The attacking dog’s owner and police were able to contain the animal until Clay County Animal Control arrived to take the dog away.

Dog attacks can be brutal. Young children and the elderly are at high risk of death from dog attacks because since the individuals can usually do nothing to fend off the attack, the injuries are very serious. If the dog owner knew that this pit bull had a history of violent behavior, he/she may be liable for the death of this poor woman. We handle dog bite injury cases in both Illinois and Missouri.
