Today, my three year old daughter was part of a neat experience at her preschool. All of the kids were allowed to bring their bikes and helmets to school. A group came to the school and met with all of the kids – explaining bike safety, checking for proper helmet fits, and showing the kids how to wear their helmets properly. My daughter had a great time and learned a lot too! Each year, more and more children are injured while riding bikes, tricycles, wagons, and big wheels. Many children are simply learning to ride and fall from their bikes. A fall causing impact to the head or neck can have dire consequences. Also, if a car crash involves a bicycle, the injuries can be fatal. As a St. Louis injury attorney Illinois and Missouri cases, I see too many children with head injuries. Helmets save lives. I will be discussing issues such as bicycle safety and other ongoings in our community in the Safety Matters newsletter.
